This week’s challenge was “Cover Up Good Stuff”. The challenge was designed to encourage us to build layers freely and not be afraid to cover up something we like in order to make way for something we might love even more.
This past Sunday I had a little gelli plate fun with a new color palat that I stumbled upon. As often happens when pulling prints, I quickly built up a pile of that I loved and set them aside for later use. I hadn’t really planned to cover them up, per say, but I decided to trust the process and just go with the challenge.
I selected one of my favorite prints that had been pulled onto deli paper, adhered it to my journal page with some gel medium and went to town building up layer after yummy layer.
I used another print, also pulled onto deli paper, circle shapes that I punched out of yet another print, gesso, a stencil, paint, circle stamps from the Journal Impressions set by Paperbag Studios, markers, pens and of course my Stabilo Marks All pencil.
I also used a print that I had previously pulled onto card stock, using the Art Deco Leaves template by Crafters Workshop. I cut out a row of the leaves and used a little more gel medium to glue it down. To make it pop a bit, I used my Stabilo and a waterbrush to fill in the negative space.
I’ve been doing a lot of introspection lately, peeling back the various layers that make up who I am and examining each one. It hasn’t been an easy process, but a necessary one. Doing so has helped me realize a few things about myself and the world around me, but more importantly, it has helped me realize that you know what, I Like who I am and while there’s always room for improvement, I AM enough.
